The Only Living Boy in New York is a 2017 American drama film directed by Marc Webb. It stars Callum Turner, Kate Beckinsale, Pierce Brosnan, Cynthia Nixon and Jeff Bridges. The film is about the son of a publisher and his artistic wife, who has just graduated college and is finding his way in life, and despite already having a girlfriend, falls deeply for his father’s mistress.
When I first saw the trailer for this film on TV, I thought to myself that I had to see it, but it wasn’t showing anywhere even close to me. Luckily, I found it on Amazon Video and watched it from there. I am glad I didn’t waste money on this one. It is good, but not great. It’s just another typical chick flick, with nothing real spectacular and with several big time actors and actresses, you’d think it would have been much better.
What this film lacks is an interesting plot, it’s just another typical chick flick story, said to be a low-budget drama. The storyline is far too simple, although pretty well acted. The film goes from angriness, to happiness, to drepressing, much too fast and often, leaving me uninterested after about 30 or 40 minuets. Although the acting is done fairly well, the entire movie seemed unoriginal and just good at best. The folk music soundtrack didn’t make this film any better. Don’t waste your time on this one, unless you really like average romantic movies. 13+ 2.5/5
